Apaches fall short on the road at Arizona Western

YUMA, Ariz. — The Cochise Women’s Basketball team was looking to make a statement on the road, taking on the 17th-ranked Arizona Western College Matadors Wednesday evening. The Apaches were coming off of a lopsided win over Community Christian Saturday, while AWC was coming off of a lopsided victory against Yavapai College.
The Matadors jumped out to an early 15-13 lead over Cochise after the first quarter, but the Apaches fought back in the second to head into the locker room down 31-33. Cochise took command in the third quarter, outscoring AWC 17-16, but fell short cooling off in the fourth to drop their second straight road game 70-55.
Sophomore guards Karolina Padilla and Micayla Silas lead the way for Cochise, each scoring 14 points. Sophomore Jessie Joaquim followed with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Cochise Women’s Basketball (5-4,2-1) will continue their road stretch as they head to Hobbs, NM for two games with South Plains and New Mexico Junior College at the Caster Activity Center on December 18th and 19th.
