Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Accreditation

Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Accreditation

Accreditation is the process through which Cochise College is officially recognized as qualified to award certificates and degrees. To maintain federal recognition by the U.S. Department of Education, HLC assures that all accredited institutions comply with the expectations of specific federal regulations. Cochise College received and has since maintained its accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission.

Cochise College undergoes a reaffirmation process on a 10-year cycle to maintain compliance.

  1. Annual Institutional Updates. HLC monitors organizational health, compliance with federal requirements, and institutional change annually.
  2. Year 4 Assurance Review. Documentation is submitted to demonstrate continued compliance with the criteria for accreditation.
  3. Years 5 – 9 Quality Initiative. Institutions design and undertake a Quality Initiative project.

Year 10 Comprehensive Evaluation for Reaffirmation. Institutions undergo a comprehensive evaluation to ensure they meet the Criteria for Accreditation, pursue institutional improvement, and comply with requirements set by the U.S. Department of Education. This review leads to an action reaffirming the institution’s accreditation.
In addition to the Institutional Accreditation maintained through the Higher Learning Commission, Cochise College earned Accreditation for professional programs in Nursing, Paramedicine, Emergency Medical Technology, and Aviation
