SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — The 12th-ranked Cochise Women’s Basketball team hosted the Inaugural Cochise Classic over the weekend in Sierra Vista at Buena High School, in which the Apaches welcomed Phoenix, Central Arizona, and Salt Lake Colleges. Cochise took the hardwood against SLCC Friday night, falling short to the #20-ranked Bruins, but the Apaches bounced back Saturday afternoon, defeating the Phoenix Lady Bears.
Friday, November 15th: Cochise 46, Salt Lake 53
Cochise began the Classic Friday night trailing the Bruins 10-9 after the first quarter. The Apaches kept battling from behind and tried to decrease the deficit late in the fourth quarter but eventually fell short 46-53. Sophomore Micayla Silas led Cochise, putting together a double-double, collecting 10 rebounds with 16 points. Fellow sophomore Jessie Joaquim followed with a double-double of her own with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Apaches dominated the board, out-rebounding SLCC 46-32, but ultimately came down to field goals, in which the Bruins scored 8 of their last 20 to run past Cochise.
Saturday, November 16th: Cochise 58, Phoenix 52
The Apaches used Saturday afternoon’s game to bounce right back into the win column,
edging past the Lady Bears of PC 58-52. Phoenix jumped out to an early over the Apaches
with a 28-23 lead at halftime; however, Cochise came out of the locker room exploding
for 18 points led by Joaquim, who scored seven in the third quarter. Sophomore Karolina
Padilla led all scorers with 18 points and also collected 15 rebounds for her first
double-double of the season. Silas scored 16 points with five rebounds and five assists.

Cochise Women’s Basketball (3-1) will travel to D-II Glendale Community College (3-2) for an afternoon tip-off on Saturday, November 23rd at 12:00 pm.
