Signature Events

Cochise College Pitfire

The Cochise College Pit Fire Festival at the Douglas Campus is a celebration of the ancient method of clay baking through pit fires, where clay is placed in a dug hole with a wood fire burning above, resulting in vibrantly colored and patterned pieces. This artistic technique is honored at a festival hosted by Cochise College, supporting the art department and participating clubs. While the event is free to attend, attendees have the option to purchase handcrafted ceramic bowls for $10, filled with gourmet soup made by the college’s culinary arts club. A thousand unique bowls were crafted by art students. This educational celebration aims to engage the community and secure future iterations of the festival. Artists, vendors, and schools are encouraged to join as partners, making the Cochise College Pit Fire Festival a representation of artistic expression in our global community, attracting attendees from various parts of Mexico, Arizona, California, and beyond.
