Overview

Save lives as a Phlebotomy Technician. Draw a patient’s blood, perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived tests, and record results used to help physicians diagnose illness and treat patients. This short but intensive 8-week course will prepare students for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Certification Exam.

As a trained phlebotomist, you’ll be responsible for obtaining blood specimens via capillary puncture or venipuncture using the correct supplies and proper techniques according to healthcare industry standards and in compliance with federal and state regulations such as HIPAA privacy laws and OSHA guidelines for infection control and worker safety. 

Students who complete this certificate successfully will be able to perform safe and accurate venipuncture and capillary puncture and record results in healthcare records. Upon successful completion of this certificate, students are eligible to take the National Health Care Career Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician Certification Examination and obtain national certification.

Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to do the following:

  • Perform safe and accurate venipuncture and capillary puncture.
  • Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Waived tests.
  • Perform urinalysis and obtain throat and nasal specimens.
  • Accurately record results in healthcare records.
  • Qualify to take the National Health Care Career Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician Certification Examination.


Admission Requirements

  • Student must be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be fully vaccinated.
  • Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card (Can receive during semester)
